The doctor is in

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

I had an opportunity to chat earlier today with Dr. Duke Johnson, medical advisor to the Nutrilite Health Institute.  And once again I was reminded how Nutrilite is much more than just a brand.

Years ago I had the opportunity to visit Nutrilite and go through what was then the Nutrilite Experience, the precursor to the Center for Optimal Health.  I met Dr. Duke for the first time during that session.  A visit to Nutrilite is powerful and overwhelming, because you can see, hear, feel, and taste the seed to tablet quality story that's unlike any other.  Even though I could quote the Nutrilite story chapter and verse and give you all the soundbites, I didn't realize the power behind these products until I saw the story for myself.

Part of the Nutrilite Experience is a series of diagnostic evaluations to determine your general nutritional state and fitness levels.  My first visit was on January 2, 2004. You get the blood work done as soon as you get there and the results later the next day.   Now as you might imagine, right after the New Year is not the best time to have such tests done.  And when I got the results back, I was depressed -- cholesterol up, blood glucose levels up, weight up.  But instead of a stern lecture from Dr. Duke and from fitness consultant Sean Foy, I got encouragement to make little changes that can make a big difference in health and wellness.  And, instead of finger wagging, I got some understanding that everyone "overdoes it" during the holidays but the point is to get back into healthy habits.

And I did.  I embarked on an exercise program that meant that by the time I returned for the Center for Optimal Health opening in 2006, I'd shaved 4 points off my body mass index and signifcantly improved my numbers.

I still have health goals to meet.   While I work out diligently, I'm also an enthusastic eater and love food.  I'm focusing more on eating healthier foods day-to-day and saving splurges for special occasions.   And I've been more diligent about taking my supplements to fill in the blanks in my diet.

The commitment to organic farming, to seed to tablet integration, to leading manufcaturing techniques make Nutrilite products the world's leader in vitamins and dietary supplements, based on sales.  The people behind the brand, like Dr. Duke, is what makes Nutrilite more about creating optimal health than just about making products.

Sorry for this off topic post. See the IBOAI blog. I thought you should read this, even if you don't post this here.

I would think that those Silver and up, who not knowing the current automatic silver and up renewal rule, would be allowed to call or write the Corporation and clarify the date of inactivity.

An IBO that thought they were resigning by not renewing should be able to straighten this out, and the Corporation, who, according to this post was following the rules, should still cooperate.

I believe it is very bad policy to renew someone, not immediately notify them of the renewal, and then refuse to correct the date based on the intent. The "Hotel California" comments on blogs are out of frustration with this policy.

The current rules have now been posted on two blogs crying foul.

I trust that IBOs, less than silver, who had dropped the automatic renewal, were not renewed without asking, and that the corporation is willing to take into account intent on the rest.

Just because certain former IBOAI board members knew about the policy, doesn't really matter. I believe people that didn't renew did so based on their own decision, and based on their confusion, were not following the instruction of former board members.

Beth,

You know what they say.  It WAAAY more fun putting the weight on, than it is taking it off.

Similar to you, I have some weight goals, using our great products.  Goal is to drop about 35-40 pounds.  Currently two weeks into my program, and I have lost 13 pounds.

Just started taking the slimmetry product as well. So we shall see how that works on the old love handles.

Anyway keep up the good work!

Editor's note:  Good for you, Josh!  It's taken me three months to do what you've done in two weeks.  Way to go!

Hi Beth, great to see a post from you again. Does Dr. Duke's visit to Ada HQ signal a growing emphasis on a more wholistic approach to positioning and selling our 'health' products, a solutions-based focus rather than an individual product-based focus? And perhaps we'll see a feature on Dr. Duke and the 8 areas of Optimal Health in an upcoming issue of Achieve??? :)

The film that they show in the theatre at the Centre for Optimal Health at the start of the tour won an award, I believe. Is it possible that you will be making it available on DVD? I went to the Centre about two years ago, and included a jaunt out to the Lakeview farms... what an incredible operation!!! Really reinforced the fact that what we have is so unique and unduplicated in the marketplace!!!

With appreciation,

Editor's Note:  Good to be back!  Actually talked with Dr. Duke by phone, but your questions are excellent and yes, we're looking at not only how we better equip IBOs to sell Nutrilite but also how we can develop more compelling and persuasive selling tools to convince customers to give our products a try.

Having fun or not is a state of mind. I've recently found out that I was chemically in trouble with my triglycerides, cholesterol, iron and weight (which was more obvious).  While putting the weight on and destroying my body chemistry was easier, I'm really enjoying feeling the benefits of turning things around.  My body chemistry is back on shape, I'm working out and feeling better and more energetic. I had reached a plateau in my weight loss though but Slimmetry is helping with that and have started losing more fat weight again. So, for me, I'm having fun losing and making better lifestyle choices. The products I use from Nutrilite help make my efforts more effective.

On topic:

Nutrilite. I have been taking Nutrilite Double and many others Nutrilite products for over 16 years. I have generally be less likely to get sick, and when I have occasionally run out, I have missed the energy it seems to give me, and I am not talking anything with caffeine or other typical "energy" sources. I have taken the online quiz and it is interesting to see what it recommends. I generally feel the Nutrilite products are worth the IBO cost, but have trouble justifying the retail cost for many items. I have a relative that has typically used Daily, and the current low IBO price for 6 months has been great.

PS, thanks for the earlier off topic post.

That DVD rdknyvr refers to needs to be available to all IBOs...and not just those willing to pay $95 in the gift shop for it, bundled with a "coffee table" book in California.

It's a 22-minute MOVIE called "Perfect Balance--The Farms of Nutrilite". It is GORGEOUS cinematography.

Very well shot, well produced, well "written" (as much as a documentary can be written). Captivating. Shows you the HEART of Nutrilite.

I was told that after a year, because of some contract with the filmmakers, that it would be available to all IBOs. Well, that anniversary was May 2007. It is now March 2008. I've visited other Amway Global markets' websites and this DVD is available for purchase. What's up? Why not here in North America?

Editor's Note:  Not sure, Bridgett, because we've used portions of this video elsewhere (notably in 2006 in some Nutrilite advertising.)  Will check and post back.

Hmmm? Consumer Reports doesn't think so.  Most consumer testing place nutrilite not at the top, not at the bottom, but somewhere in the middle.  Oh, and where is the value in vitamins that cost enough for a years supply of many higher rated vitamins?

Oh Consumer Reports is so knowlegable regarding nutritional supplements--NOT.

They can't even get the basics right--like the amount of SA8 laundry soap to use per load.

LOL

Can Q/A clarify why in comparing glucosamine hydrochloride vs glucosamine sulfate, the one in Nutrilite is better than the other one. Several articles and tests say Nutrilite and MonaVie are using the wrong one.

Are they? Is HCL better or not?
